Provitalis review

Provitalis Mushroom Coffee is a mushroom coffee sold throughout Central Europe: 800 mg of extracts from four mushrooms, 33 mg of caffeine, and a very low price. It is an affordable offer, with a published label. Brainstoorm plays a different card: 20 mg of caffeine, maca in the form of a concentrated extract, a guaranteed fruiting body, and 60 days to get your money back, even once the pouch is open. Here are the two labels, line by line.

Our verdict in brief

Two coffees light on caffeine, two levels of detail on the label.

Provitalis and Brainstoorm are aimed at the same moment of the day: replacing a cup of coffee with a gentler drink, made with mushrooms, maca and ashwagandha. On paper, the two recipes look alike. The differences come down to the form of the plants, what the label does or does not specify, and the refund conditions.

  • Brainstoorm is for you if you want the lowest caffeine (20 mg), maca and ashwagandha as concentrated extracts, mushrooms where the part used is set down in black and white, and the right to taste before you decide.
  • Provitalis is for you if price is your first criterion, if you want four mushrooms including reishi and shiitake, and if a drink made with cocoa and coconut milk appeals to you.
  • On price, Provitalis is clearly cheaper: €0.82 per cup as a one-off purchase in the Czech Republic, versus €1.42 for Brainstoorm, and €0.50 versus €0.78 at the best rate.

The ingredients in detail

What is in one serving of Provitalis.

Provitalis publishes its label, which is not that common at this price level. The mushrooms are shown there as weight of extract, with a 10:1 ratio stated on the page. The maca and ashwagandha, for their part, are plant powders and not extracts.

Ingredient Per serving Form Mushroom equivalent
Cordyceps 200 mg 10:1 extract 2,000 mg
Reishi 200 mg 10:1 extract 2,000 mg
Lion's mane 200 mg 10:1 extract 2,000 mg
Shiitake 200 mg 10:1 extract 2,000 mg
Total 4 mushrooms 800 mg 8,000 mg
Maca 333 mg powder —
Ashwagandha 67 mg powder —
Caffeine 33 mg instant coffee and caffeine

Source: label and “Mushroom Coffee” page on cz.provitalis.co, recorded on 6 October 2026. The “mushroom equivalent” column is our own calculation: weight of extract multiplied by the stated ratio. The six active ingredients add up to 1,200 mg in a 4,530 mg serving; the amounts of coconut milk, cocoa, maltodextrin and coffee are not stated. The part of the mushroom used and the polysaccharide content are not specified.

Extract or equivalent

Two numbers for the same mushroom: how to read them.

On a mushroom coffee label, the same ingredient can appear with two very different weights. Both are correct; they simply do not measure the same thing. Provitalis shows weights of extract and a ratio; Brainstoorm shows dried-plant equivalents. To compare fairly, we give both figures on both sides.

The extract is what is in the cup

An extract is a concentrate. With a 10:1 ratio, it took 10 g of dried mushroom to obtain 1 g of powder.

The equivalent is the starting weight

“1,000 mg dry equivalent” with a 10:1 ratio means 100 mg of extract in the cup.

The part of the mushroom matters

The fruiting body is the mushroom itself; the mycelium is its network of filaments. Both are used, and a clear label says which.

The rule for comparing

Always the same column on both sides: extract against extract, equivalent against equivalent. That is what the following table does.

Dosages compared

Brainstoorm and Provitalis, line by line.

For each ingredient, the table gives the actual weight and then, in brackets, the dried-plant equivalent where the ingredient is an extract. Brainstoorm coffee flavour: 6 g serving. Provitalis: 4.53 g serving.

Each recipe has its own logic. Provitalis lines up four mushrooms at equal doses, 800 mg of extracts in all, in a drink made with cocoa and coconut milk. Brainstoorm chooses three, from the fruiting body, and takes particular care over its plants: its maca is an extract concentrated eight times, where the maca in Provitalis is a root powder, and its ashwagandha is standardised for withanolides. Its vitamin B5, at 100% of the reference intake, contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal mental performance.

Caffeine

33 mg on one side, 20 mg on the other.

Both drinks are light. Provitalis states 33 mg of caffeine per serving, “about half a cup of coffee”, supplied by instant coffee and added caffeine. An espresso contains around 80 mg according to the European Food Safety Authority. The brand also offers a caffeine-free version.

Brainstoorm goes down to 20 mg per cup. This caffeine is microencapsulated (NewCaff®), meaning it is coated so that it is released gradually. The coffee taste comes from roasted chicory, which contains none.

One cup a day

Provitalis: 33 mg. Brainstoorm: 20 mg. The EFSA benchmark for an adult is 400 mg a day, from all sources combined.

At the maximum recommended dose

Two servings of Provitalis: 66 mg. Brainstoorm is taken as one cup: 20 mg.

In the afternoon

At 20 mg, a cup of Brainstoorm after lunch weighs four times less on your evening than an espresso.
