BeKeto review

BeKeto Mushroom Coffee is a Polish vanilla instant coffee, enriched with three mushrooms: reishi, lion's mane and cordyceps, at 3% each, with 60 to 80 mg of caffeine according to the brand. It is an indulgent, sugar-free coffee, designed for people on a ketogenic diet. Brainstoorm takes a different line: no coffee, extracts with every dose written in milligrams, maca, ashwagandha, and 20 mg of caffeine. Here are the two recipes, line by line.

Our verdict in brief

A flavoured instant coffee, or a cup with no coffee.

BeKeto and Brainstoorm both put three mushrooms into an instant powder. The resemblance ends there. BeKeto is first and foremost an instant coffee, flavoured with vanilla, in which the mushrooms make up 9% of the cup. Brainstoorm contains no coffee: its base is roasted chicory, and its recipe is built around the extracts.

  • Brainstoorm is for you if you want little caffeine (20 mg), doses written in milligrams of extract, maca and ashwagandha on top of the mushrooms, and 60 days to change your mind.
  • BeKeto is for you if you are looking for a vanilla instant coffee, with no sugar or carbohydrates, a list of five ingredients and a low price.
  • On price, BeKeto is cheaper as a one-off purchase: around €0.73 per cup in Poland, versus €1.42 for Brainstoorm; on a three-month subscription, Brainstoorm comes down to €0.78.

The ingredients in detail

What is in one serving of BeKeto.

BeKeto publishes its label and the share of each mushroom in the recipe: 3%. The brand works in percentages, not milligrams; for a 10 g serving, that comes to 300 mg per mushroom. It does not specify whether these are extracts or mushroom powder.

Ingredient Stated share Per 10 g serving Note
Reishi 3% 300 mg form not specified
Lion's mane 3% 300 mg form not specified
Cordyceps 3% 300 mg form not specified
Total 3 mushrooms 9% 900 mg
Instant coffee and natural flavouring 91% 9,100 mg breakdown not stated

Source: “Mushroom” product page and label on beketo.pl, recorded on 6 October 2026. The milligrams and the 91% are our own calculations based on the stated percentages. The brand's category page refers to “powdered” mushrooms. The extraction ratio, the part of the mushroom used and the polysaccharide content are not stated.

Extract or equivalent

Two numbers for the same mushroom: how to read them.

On a mushroom coffee label, the same ingredient can appear with two very different weights. Both are correct; they simply do not measure the same thing. BeKeto shows percentages, without saying whether these are extracts; Brainstoorm shows dried-plant equivalents. To compare fairly, we give both figures on the Brainstoorm side.

The extract is what is in the cup

An extract is a concentrate. With a 10:1 ratio, it took 10 g of dried mushroom to obtain 1 g of powder.

The equivalent is the starting weight

“1,000 mg dry equivalent” with a 10:1 ratio means 100 mg of extract in the cup.

The part of the mushroom matters

The fruiting body is the mushroom itself; the mycelium is its network of filaments. Both are used, and a clear label says which.

The rule for comparing

Always the same column on both sides: extract against extract, equivalent against equivalent. That is what the following table does.

Dosages compared

Brainstoorm and BeKeto, line by line.

For Brainstoorm, the table gives the actual weight of extract and then, in brackets, the dried-plant equivalent. For BeKeto, the weight calculated from the stated 3%. Brainstoorm coffee flavour: 6 g serving. BeKeto: 10 g serving.

Each recipe has its own logic. BeKeto offers a coffee to enjoy, with vanilla and a touch of three mushrooms whose proportion it states. Brainstoorm gives the weight of extract and the equivalent for each mushroom, specifies that it comes from the fruiting body, and adds maca and ashwagandha. Its vitamin B5, at 100% of the reference intake, contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal mental performance.

Caffeine

60 to 80 mg on one side, 20 mg on the other.

BeKeto gives no caffeine figure on its product page; its category page gives an estimate of 60 to 80 mg per serving. That is in the region of an espresso, which contains around 80 mg according to the European Food Safety Authority. The brand states that there is nothing to stop you drinking more than one cup a day.

Brainstoorm contains no coffee. Each cup provides 20 mg of NewCaff® microencapsulated caffeine, coated so that it is released gradually, and its taste comes from roasted chicory.

One cup a day

BeKeto: 60 to 80 mg, the brand's estimate. Brainstoorm: 20 mg. The EFSA benchmark for an adult is 400 mg a day, from all sources combined.

With your usual coffees

Two espressos plus one BeKeto: around 220 to 240 mg. The same two espressos plus one Brainstoorm: around 180 mg.

In the afternoon

At 20 mg, a cup of Brainstoorm after lunch weighs four times less on your evening than an espresso.

Which one to choose

A vanilla mushroom coffee, or extracts dosed to the milligram?

If you want an indulgent, sugar-free instant coffee with a touch of mushrooms, BeKeto is a simple, affordable choice, and you will not go wrong. If you want to know exactly what you are drinking, with far less caffeine, without the racing heart at 10 am or the slump at 3 pm, you are the person we created Brainstoorm for.

  • Three mushrooms from the fruiting body, 1,000 mg of equivalent each, including 250 mg of cordyceps extract.
  • Two extra plants: 3,000 mg of maca equivalent, plus ashwagandha, neither of which is in the BeKeto recipe.
  • 6 mg of vitamin B5 in a single cup, i.e. 100% of the reference intake: it contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
