Solve Labs review

Mushroom Coffee from the Polish brand Solve Labs is a real ground coffee, to be brewed like a filter coffee, enriched with 500 mg of lion's mane extract and with rhodiola. It is a purist's product: three ingredients, an Arabica from Brazil, a precise label and a very low price. Brainstoorm answers a different wish: an instant powder without coffee, three mushrooms, two plants, and only 20 mg of caffeine. Here are the two recipes, line by line.

Our verdict in brief

A ground coffee to brew, or a cup ready in ten seconds.

Solve Labs and Brainstoorm are not prepared in the same way and are not meant for the same moment. Solve Labs Mushroom Coffee is ground coffee: it needs a coffee maker, a filter or a machine, and it keeps all the caffeine of a coffee. Brainstoorm is a powder you add to hot water, designed for people who want precisely to move away from coffee.

  • Brainstoorm is for you if you want little caffeine (20 mg), an instant drink, three mushrooms and two plants in the same cup, and 60 days to change your mind.
  • Solve Labs is for you if you enjoy making a real coffee, if you want a high dose of lion's mane, and if price is a deciding factor.
  • On price, Solve Labs is clearly cheaper: around €0.53 per cup in Poland, versus €1.42 for Brainstoorm as a one-off purchase and €0.78 at the best subscription rate.

The ingredients in detail

What is in a cup of Solve Labs.

The Solve Labs label gets straight to the point: the ingredient list gives the extraction ratio of each extract and the part used, the fruiting body for the mushrooms. Here are the figures for an 11 g serving, in both variants.

Ingredient Extract Ratio Plant equivalent
Lion's mane (variant 1) 500 mg 10:1, fruiting body 5,000 mg
Rhodiola (variant 1) 130 mg 4:1, root 520 mg
Chaga (variant 2) 500 mg 10:1, fruiting body 5,000 mg
Ashwagandha (variant 2) 500 mg 4:1, root 2,000 mg
Ground Arabica coffee around 10,370 mg the rest of the serving

Source: “Mushroom Coffee 330g” product pages on solvelabs.eu, recorded on 6 October 2026. The “plant equivalent” column and the weight of coffee are our own calculations: weight of extract multiplied by the ratio, and serving minus the extracts. The brand does not publish a caffeine content, a polysaccharide content or a nutrition table.

Extract or equivalent

Two numbers for the same mushroom: how to read them.

On a mushroom coffee label, the same ingredient can appear with two very different weights. Both are correct; they simply do not measure the same thing. Solve Labs shows weights of extract and its ratios; Brainstoorm shows dried-plant equivalents. To compare fairly, we give both figures on both sides.

The extract is what is in the cup

An extract is a concentrate. With a 10:1 ratio, it took 10 g of dried mushroom to obtain 1 g of powder.

The equivalent is the starting weight

“1,000 mg dry equivalent” with a 10:1 ratio means 100 mg of extract in the cup.

The part of the mushroom matters

The fruiting body is the mushroom itself; the mycelium is its network of filaments. Both are used, and a clear label says which.

The rule for comparing

Always the same column on both sides: extract against extract, equivalent against equivalent. That is what the following table does.

Dosages compared

Brainstoorm and Solve Labs, line by line.

For each ingredient, the table gives the actual weight of extract and then, in brackets, the dried-plant equivalent. Brainstoorm coffee flavour: 6 g serving of instant powder. Solve Labs, lion's mane and rhodiola variant: 11 g of ground coffee.

Per cup Brainstoorm coffee Solve Labs Mushroom Coffee

Cordyceps 250 mg (1,000 mg) absent
Chaga 20 mg (1,000 mg) in the other variant: 500 mg (5,000 mg)
Maca 375 mg (3,000 mg) absent
Ashwagandha 40 mg of extract in the other variant: 500 mg (2,000 mg)
Rhodiola in the choc version (25 mg) 130 mg (520 mg)
Vitamin B5 6 mg, 100% of the reference intake absent

Each recipe has its own logic. Solve Labs concentrates everything on one mushroom, at a high dose: five times more lion's mane than Brainstoorm, in a speciality coffee. To have chaga as well, you need to buy the second variant, and cordyceps is not offered in this coffee. Brainstoorm brings all three together in the same cup, with maca and ashwagandha. Its vitamin B5, at 100% of the reference intake, contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal mental performance.

Caffeine

All the caffeine of a coffee, or just 20 mg.

Solve Labs does not state the caffeine content of its Mushroom Coffee. What we do know: each cup is made with 11 g of blend, of which around 10 g is ground Arabica coffee, for 200 ml of water. As a benchmark, the European Food Safety Authority uses a figure of around 90 mg of caffeine for a 200 ml cup of filter coffee. The brand also recommends not combining it with other sources of caffeine.

Brainstoorm contains no coffee. Each cup provides 20 mg of NewCaff® microencapsulated caffeine, coated so that it is released gradually, and its taste comes from roasted chicory.

One cup a day

Solve Labs: the caffeine of a ground coffee, with no figure given by the brand. Brainstoorm: 20 mg. The EFSA benchmark for an adult is 400 mg a day, from all sources combined.

With your usual coffees

Solve Labs advises against combining it with other sources of caffeine. Two espressos plus one Brainstoorm: around 180 mg.

In the afternoon

At 20 mg, a cup of Brainstoorm after lunch weighs four times less on your evening than an espresso.

If caffeine is what matters to you, our article how many cups of coffee a day does the maths cup by cup, and coffee and anxiety sets out the signs of having too much.

Which one to choose

A big lion's mane coffee, or a cup that replaces coffee?

If you love the ritual of filter coffee and are looking for the highest dose of lion's mane at the best price, Solve Labs is an excellent choice and you will not go wrong. If, on the contrary, you want to ease off the caffeine, without the racing heart at 10 am or the slump at 3 pm, you are the person we created Brainstoorm for.

  • 20 mg of caffeine per cup, released gradually, where Solve Labs keeps that of a ground coffee.
  • Three mushrooms in the same cup: lion's mane, cordyceps and chaga from the fruiting body, 1,000 mg of equivalent each.
  • Two extra plants: 3,000 mg of maca equivalent, plus ashwagandha, without switching variant.
  • Ready in ten seconds: one spoonful in hot water, no filter or machine.
  • 6 mg of vitamin B5 in a single cup, i.e. 100% of the reference intake: it contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • No mushroom taste: roasted chicory brings the roundness and bitterness of a coffee.
  • 60-day money-back guarantee: you taste, you decide.

More than 50,000 people have already replaced one of their cups with Brainstoorm, and rate it 4.8 out of 5.
