Be Levels review

be calm, from the Spanish brand Be Levels, is a richly stocked capsule formula: ashwagandha, reishi, L-theanine, ginkgo, lavender, rhodiola, glycine, magnesium and two B vitamins, taken as two capsules a day. It is a dense recipe, with every dose and every supplier stated. Anti-Stress Complex, by Mush n Go, keeps things shorter: one capsule a day, four extracts, one vitamin, and 60 days to change your mind, even once the box is open. Here are the two labels, line by line.

Our verdict in brief

A formula with ten actives, or one capsule that gets to the essentials.

be calm and Anti-Stress Complex are built around the same two ingredients, ashwagandha and reishi. Be Levels adds eight other actives, including amino acids and high-dose vitamins. Mush n Go narrows the recipe down to four plant and mushroom extracts, with vitamin B6 close to the reference intake.

  • Anti-Stress Complex is for you if you want just one capsule a day, a short recipe of plants and mushroom, vitamins dosed close to the reference intake, and 60 days to try it.
  • be calm is for you if you are looking for the most complete formula possible, with a higher dose of ashwagandha, L-theanine and magnesium, and if taking two capsules does not bother you.
  • On price, be calm is slightly cheaper as a one-off purchase: €1.23 a day versus €1.42 for Anti-Stress Complex; on subscription, Anti-Stress Complex comes down to €1.00 a day.

What is Be Levels

A Madrid-based supplement brand, very transparent about its ingredients.

Be Levels is a Spanish company based in Madrid, which sells more than eighty products online, most of them food supplements. It offers neither a mushroom coffee nor a lion's mane product for adults; reishi appears in be calm, its formula for evenings and busy days. For each ingredient, the brand states the dose, the guaranteed content and the supplier.

Extract or equivalent

Two numbers for the same mushroom: how to read them.

On a mushroom capsule label, the same ingredient can appear with two very different weights. Both are correct; they simply do not measure the same thing. Be Levels shows weights of extract and guaranteed contents; so does Anti-Stress Complex, along with the dried-plant equivalent. We give both figures on the Anti-Stress Complex side.

The extract is what is in the capsule

An extract is a concentrate. With a 10:1 ratio, it took 10 g of dried mushroom to obtain 1 g of powder.

The equivalent is the starting weight

“1,000 mg dry equivalent” with a 10:1 ratio means 100 mg of extract in the capsule.

The part of the mushroom matters

The fruiting body is the mushroom itself; the mycelium is its network of filaments. Both are used, and a clear label says which.

The rule for comparing

Always the same column on both sides: extract against extract, equivalent against equivalent. That is what the following table does.

Dosages compared

Anti-Stress Complex and Be Levels be calm, line by line.

The table compares the daily dose of each product: one capsule of Anti-Stress Complex, two capsules of be calm. For Anti-Stress Complex, the dried-plant equivalent appears in brackets.

Per day Anti-Stress Complex Be Levels be calm
Capsules per day 1 2
Ashwagandha 100 mg of extract (5,000 mg), of which 5 mg withanolides 400 mg of extract, of which 20 mg withanolides
Reishi 200 mg of extract (3,000 mg), of which 90 mg polysaccharides 334 mg of extract, of which 33.4 mg beta-glucans
Holy basil 100 mg of extract (400 mg) absent
Schisandra 90 mg of extract, of which 4.5 mg schisandrin absent
Ginkgo, lavender, rhodiola absent 160 mg, 106 mg and 34 mg of extract
L-theanine and glycine absent 266 mg and 334 mg
Vitamin B6 2 mg, 143% of the reference intake 7.43 mg, 528% of the reference intake
Vitamin B5 absent 400 mg, 6,666% of the reference intake
Magnesium absent 12.33 mg
Caffeine none none

be calm puts more ashwagandha and reishi into its daily dose, and plenty of other actives around them. Anti-Stress Complex opts for restraint: four extracts, all from plants or mushroom, with no added amino acid, and vitamin B6 dosed at 143% of the reference intake, where be calm goes up to 528%, and to 6,666% for vitamin B5. Vitamin B6 contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal psychological function.

Ten actives or five

Put everything in the formula, or choose four extracts.

It is a difference in philosophy. Be Levels builds a broad formula that combines plants, mushroom, amino acids, a mineral and vitamins, with doses of B vitamins well above the reference intake. Everything is written down, including the supplier of each ingredient: it is hard to be more transparent.

Mush n Go takes the opposite approach with Anti-Stress Complex: one capsule, four extracts, ashwagandha and reishi at the centre, holy basil and schisandra alongside them, and a single vitamin. Each extract is given with its content: withanolides for ashwagandha, polysaccharides for reishi, schisandrin for schisandra.

How to take it

Anti-Stress Complex: one capsule a day, in the morning. be calm: two capsules a day.

How long it lasts

A box of Anti-Stress Complex covers 30 days, as does a bottle of be calm.

Caffeine

Neither contains any. If you are also looking to cut down on coffee, Brainstoorm provides 20 mg per cup.

Which one to choose

The fullest formula, or the simplest capsule?

If you like complete formulas and two capsules a day do not bother you, be calm is a serious, remarkably well-documented product, and you will not go wrong. If you prefer a short recipe of plants and mushroom, in a single capsule, you are the person we created Anti-Stress Complex for.

  • One capsule a day, instead of two.
  • Ashwagandha and reishi: 100 mg and 200 mg of extract, i.e. 5,000 mg and 3,000 mg of dried-plant equivalent.
  • Holy basil and schisandra, two plants absent from the be calm formula.
  • Vitamin B6 at 143% of the reference intake: it contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.
  • 60-day money-back guarantee: you try, you decide.

Mush n Go is rated 4.8 out of 5 by its customers.
